Adding rotation activates the spine, shoulders, and core in one powerful stretch.
The World’s Greatest Stretch: One Move to Unlock Strength and Mobility
Deep lunge with elbow drop — opening the hips, groin, and spine.
If you only have time for one stretch, make it this one. Known as the “World’s Greatest Stretch,” this dynamic movement combines hip mobility, thoracic rotation, hamstring lengthening, and core stability—all in one fluid sequence.
Why It Works
This stretch is popular for a reason: it targets multiple areas at once. Whether you're warming up for strength training, recovering from a long day, or improving movement quality for climbing or everyday function, this sequence checks every box.
How to Perform It
1. Start in a high lunge with your right foot forward and your left leg extended back.
2. Place your left hand on the ground and rotate your right arm toward the sky, opening your chest.
3. Hold for a breath, then bring your right elbow toward the inside of your right foot (optional pulse).
4. Return to the twist and repeat for 2–3 reps, then switch sides.
Coaching Tips
- Move with control—not speed
- Breathe through the stretch to enhance mobility
- Keep the back leg strong and active to engage hip flexors
- Ideal as part of a warmup or active recovery session
I include this movement in nearly every client warmup because it improves how you move and feel, fast. Whether you're preparing to lift, climb, or just live better—this stretch delivers results.
