Injury Recovery Week 2 – Combining Chiropractic Adjustments with Functional Training
Behind the Scenes: My Injury Recovery Journey (Week 2)
This is part of my ongoing behind-the-scenes look at how I’m addressing some chronic issues in my spine — specifically at L4/L5 and C6. Last week I shared the X-rays that revealed the state of these areas. Today, I want to go deeper into what happens during my visits with Dr. Mathew Redman at Legacy Chiropractic and how I combine his care with my own daily functional training and mobility work.
The Power of Collaboration
I strongly believe in the value of combining hands-on treatment with movement-based rehab. That’s why I work closely with Dr. Mathew Redman at Legacy Chiropractic. He doesn’t just guess where to adjust — he takes precise measurements before every session, and he always refers back to my X-rays to make sure he’s targeting the right spots. In the video below, you’ll see him measuring my neck and lower back before and after an adjustment to confirm that it worked. We also take a few minutes before and after each session to check in and make sure our plan is on track. You can learn more about his approach at www.legacychiropracticaustin.com.
My Daily Work: Function and Mobility
Chiropractic care isn’t magic — it works best when paired with consistent daily effort. I’ve been putting in time every day doing targeted mobility work, functional strength training, and soft tissue techniques like foam rolling and trigger point work. These tools help reinforce what we’re doing during adjustments and keep my nervous system and joints moving the right way.
Progress You Can Measure
What I appreciate most about working with Dr. Redman is the precision and consistency of his process. It’s not guesswork — we’re taking measurements, making adjustments, then checking again to see if the changes hold. That kind of feedback loop makes it easy to stay motivated and confident in our approach.
A Note on Safety
After last week’s post, someone shared a personal story about being injured during a chiropractic neck adjustment. I want to acknowledge that these concerns are valid — and it’s something I take seriously. One of the reasons I feel confident working with Dr. Redman is that he always measures twice before every adjustment, and he uses the X-rays as a reference point every time. That level of care and attention makes all the difference.
This Is Why I Preach Collaboration
Too often, treatment and training are kept separate. But when movement professionals and hands-on practitioners work together — and when the client (me, in this case) stays consistent — progress comes faster and lasts longer. I’ll keep sharing what this process looks like in real life. If you’re dealing with similar pain or challenges, feel free to reach out. Happy to answer questions or share more about what’s helping me move and feel better every day.
